In the past several weeks we have had some folks come in who are spinners. One young man brought his wheel to the shop and sat and spun some beautiful lace weight yarn. As he sat and I watched, he moved his feet silently on the two pedals and guided the soft, fluffy wool through the opening and onto the wheel. I thought about the beginnings of yarn, thread and all it takes to make a piece of cloth. What a wonder! I am inspired to do this wonderful craft. Not to the point of not knitting mind you, but to add to my love for fiber. This is not a quick thing to do, but mindful and peaceful. Sitting and focusing on drafting the roving through the orifice of the wheel requires some concentration. Carding the fiber to make your own personal blend is amazing too! We want to be able to share the love of fiber from beginning to end. So, I have ordered an Ashford Joy 2 spinning wheel, and a drum carder to learn about spinning and blending fiber! We welcome all who spin, weave and of course knit and crochet. Linda and I have been so surprised at how many people in our area that spin! So if you know someone, or you spin, bring your wheel and share this beautiful craft with us. We have so much to learn, and it excites me that I am still able to learn!
Speaking of inspiration, I am so proud of all of you that come in and share your finished projects! I have been posting pics of them on Facebook!. Thank all of you for being our customers and allowing us to serve you. Oh my goodness, we have so much coming up in the next months. Weaving is going to begin soon. We are waiting on the stands to come in. There has evidently been a strike somewhere, and so they are sitting somewhere in the Pacific Ocean waiting to be unloaded. We have fresh fiber being sent for spinners. And of course, we have some beautiful new yarns arriving almost daily. If you like knitting Do-Dads we have in the cutest new ones from Puffin and Co. She has made beautiful maple boxes to hold your markers, scissors, darning needles. Gauge finders with little pins with sheep and alpacas on them. These are all handcrafted from Utah! Come see. We will also have new classes listed on the calendar this week. A beginning hat class,How to make cables, and a fabulous scarf felting class that we will let you pick your colors for. This class incorporates silk scarfs with the felted yarn! If you love one of a kind scarves you will not want to miss this class! For beginning knitters who have had their first two classes, the Hat class is awesome! You will continue to learn how to use your knitting skills to make a hat and knit in the round! Cables,Cable,Cables... Oh they look so beautiful entwined and twisted in beautiful yarns! The technique is amazingly simple, and we will have a two session class on a single cable scarf! This is low stress too:) Our Two at a Time sock class has started and we all survived the first class! Dont give up, slow and steady wins the two socks! We hope to see you this week, get out and enjoy this beautiful weather! Bring some knitting, crochet, or spinning to the shop and visit with us! Heck, bring your lunch and spend the afternoon with us! We love seeing you and catching your inspiration! Love to you all! Knit on! Penny and Linda
