I know thats kind of cliche right? But Im so happy its fall. We had an amazing experience this month. Rhinebeck,NY. is where we went to see and enjoy their sheep and wool festival. Let me tell you, it was outstanding! Postcard perfect weather, scenery, and people. I was truly in awe of the beautiful animals that bring us the amazing yarn that we knit and crochet, weave with. These folks who raise these sweet beasts are as American as you can get. That impressed me too. We were all just enjoying our beautiful America, crowds of thousands coming together to celebrate the basics of our life. There were no agendas there, just warm "hellos","I love that shawl you're wearing," "where are your from?," It was a breath of fresh country air! The communal effort that was made to remind us of how great and blessed our nation is, and that WE made it that way, not the buffoons who say they represent us. Hardworking farmers,craftsmen,inventors.. the people that keep us up and running. God fearing men who weren't afraid to show their faith, and kindness to others. Anyway, I hope you get where Im coming from. I am extremely proud to be an American, and am also proud of the business I am in. We try hard to buy American products, and what I saw this weekend was the reason why.
Much love to you all, you enrich and infuse my life with such joy. Thank you... Penny Hello friends, I know it has been a bit since I wrote anything on the blog. Life right? Well, here I am and have so much to talk about. Our shop is growing by leaps and bounds. We have many new customers,yarns,ideas.... We now are open on Sundays from 2-5pm, and have the best time just hanging around and chillin'. Literally chilling, its so hot outside we have installed meat lockers in the shop... not really but we keep it pretty cool;) Lots of things happening here too. Ann Chandler is our our new crochet, sewing instructor. She is nothing short of amazing. She teaches beginning crochet, and beginning sewing! She will also teach you how to design your own sewing patterns. How lucky are we that she is our friend! She will set you up with private classes at your leisure. This coming Saturday August 13, we will be starting the Miss Grace shawl. She is a beauty, let me tell you. She is all about tapestry knitting! New term right? For me too. Its all garter ridges and short rows, no smoke and mirrors just an interesting way to put shapes and forms together to create one gorgeous shawl. She's voluptuous and engaging, and will draw you in to the point you cant put her down. Its been so fun for me to explore and get to know this pattern and the way its constructed. You choose three colors to make her in, and then combine them for a absolutely stunning effect. I cant wait to share with all of you who have purchased yarn, and are signed up! Its not too late to come and get your yarn and get in the class! We are almost two years old! How can it be? Days, weeks, months slip by and we seem to fly don't we? What a privilege it is to know all of you who I have met and enjoy. You make my life complete, and like a quilt you warm me and keep life colorful! Thank you all for your continuing support of Yarn on Youree. I hope and pray we have many more days of laughter, fun, joy and friendship to share. Love, love to you Penny ![]() Here she is! Miss Grace, isn't she wonderful! Come and meet her and enjoy the journey of creating your own tapestry! To Download a PDF version of the newsletter click Download File. ![]()

We have some talented friends among us! Who knew? A beautiful young lady came in the shop yesterday and brought with her the makings of a fabulous Bee Keepers knitted quilt! She has made many, many little knitted, stuffed hexagons. They are like little jewels waiting to be sewn together to create one beautiful quilt! What an heirloom! We love seeing your creations, they inspire us! Our Judy Platt has been weaving up a storm(not literally) no help needed there. She brought in three beautiful pieces she has woven on her new Ashford Knitters loom. Many of our new weavers have purchased their own looms! We are thrilled that all of you have embraced this new way to love fiber! Our classes are filling up fast, we have 2 openings in June. May is full! Yesterday Knitting Under The Influence closed. That shop was a beacon of light to me and many others. Like lightening in a bottle it was the perfect mix of craft and friendship. Nancy Gauthier opened "the shop"at just the right time! There have been other knit shops in Shreveport but none like this one. I personally found a place where I could go for awhile and escape my grief. But also, a place I could express my grief.. I met other moms who had lost their children. They showed me there was indeed happiness in gathering and knitting, laughing, and crying. I learned how to be a friend. And I learned I was worthy of friendship. I know this may sound too good to be true, but it wasn't. High school and college weren't my thing, I was a nerd, and not very comfortable in social situations. I married, and married... lol... and my life revolved around my children and family. Friends weren't a big priority. The "shop" gave me the missing pieces. Knitting Under the Influence has inspired me and my sweet partner,Linda to hopefully bring to you and other friends the laughter, friendship and camaraderie that we felt over the past seven years. Thank you Nancy for all the love and graciousness you shared with me. I'll bring you my key this week;).... Spring is here!!!! So happy to see the sunshine! We had a fun day at the shop today. Three classes going on at the same time. Beginning Hat,Stranding, and Beginning knitting. Our next Weaving Weekend is April 11-12. Im looking forward to seeing what the next group will choose for their colors and textures. Easter is next weekend and spring break too. We will be having some sales on certain yarns that week, so watch FB and here for postings on what will be on sale! I have the bug to get outside and work in my yard. Its hard to choose between the yarn and yarn.. lol..They both start with "Y".. So I usually don't choose, I just do both. I started a new weaving project today with some fine wool thread. Josh G. helped me warp the loom, and Im excited to get started on it. Im going to do a houndstooth weave. I hope to have it done this week. Im weaving it on a 16" Ashford loom. Its a good portable size. This thread is very small but its what most weavers use. I love to use knitting yarns because of all the fun options, but this looks like it will be a beautiful piece of fabric.
The three ladies who took the Stranding class this morning with Josh were killing it! They all had two colors going at the same time, and actually looking like they were enjoying it! Josh is a kind, patient teacher with mad knitting skills. We are lucky ducks to have him here!! My beginning hat knitters were busy starting the Wurm hat. Its neat, you can do it with several colors or just one.. fun knit. My dad has been keeping us company for a few weeks and he has kept us all laughing! Thank you all for being so kind to him, he's my heart. We have new spring babies on the way. This week our sweet Heather Blake welcomed Hadley Ruth into this world. She is beautiful, and so precious! Congratulations to Heather,Aaron, and Sweet grandma Pam Clapp! Our Katie Moroni is next! Cant wait to meet her Hadlee Pearl!. Being a grandparent is the best thing in the world, the love you have for these grand babies is unparalleled. Loving this time of my life. I am going to see my babies in Baton Rouge this next weekend! I can't wait! I hope and pray your Easter will be filled with love and family! How blessed we are that the stone rolled away! Love you all ! Penny and Linda Darla finished her first weaving project! How beautiful is this Noro yarn! So proud of her! Heres Diane!! Look at her wallhanging! The colors are saturated. This is Noro as well. Seems we all love our Noro! Wonderful first project Diane! Judy is very happy with her baby blanket for her new granddaughter Dalia Platt! She should be, its beautiful! We have two more Weaving Weekends scheduled for April and May. Our classes are two days in a row and lunch is included. You learn to direct warp, and all about the Ashford Knitters loom. Rigid heddle weaving is fun,and a wonderful way to use up beautiful yarn that you already have. Of course, theres always new yarn in your future. There is always something fun going on at the shop. My dad is home from the mission field to have some cataract surgery and it also happens to be his fortieth anniversary of being a missionary to Mexico. One of our sweet customers made him some wonderful lemon bars to help him celebrate. Here is a photo of him with his delicious dessert by Kaye Reilly! Im so blessed to have him here with me. Eighty two years young! God bless you dad! Come by our wonderful shop and see the beautiful yarns and meet some new and old friends. We are so blessed to have a place to enjoy and share our craft. We thank you for your patronage and most of all your support . We have a new class on the schedule! Josh Goodwin is going to be teaching a Stranding or Fair Isle class. This young man is truly gifted and we are so fortunate to have met him. This class you will be making a hat or a small bag. Here is a photo! This class is for advanced knitters, and will be held on March 28, April 4, April 11,April 18. Call the shop to reserve your spot! Cost is 85$

Im so excited to start each week with you! Come see us when you can! We love and appreciate each of you. Weaving is about to begin at Yarn on Youree! We will be offering weaving workshops every other weekend starting with March 14-15. The hours will be 9:00 am through 4:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00am - 4:00 pm on Sunday. Lunch will provided on both days. We will be learning on a Ashford rigid heddle loom. You will learn about beginning weaving and how to set your loom up, and then weave a project! This is quite addicting! New worlds open up for all the beautiful yarn that is available. I love to learn new things, and I hope you will too! The cost for the 2 day workshop is $150.00, and is payable at the time of registration. The class size is 4 students. The first class is full, but all of the others are still open. Call the shop and reserve your spot! You won't want to miss this opportunity to learn this wonderful craft! Hope to see you shyer and I can't wait to share my new knowledge with you <3.
