We hear these words on a daily basis, they are part of our chatter with each other. In my personal day to day life I am all these words and more. I wonder though if we are more thankful for whatever, when we have been without or when we have had the something and then had it taken away? This week my sweet daughter lost her cat due to leukemia. It was heartbreaking to say the least watching her suffer this loss. I too have lost pets, friends and a child. The pain is like no other. Jennifer related to me that if God truly loved her He would not have taken Luna from her. I wanted to say so many things to her, to assure her that that wasn't the case at all. But, I remember how during these times no words can help the crushing hurt of loss. I think that we truly learn thankfulness, gratitude, happiness, contentedness, peace when we go through pain and then come out on the other side in the sunlight. Im not saying that we don't appreciate things we have but Im saying that I believe true thankfulness comes through pain, and then healing. We all live in a world that was wrought through pain, suffering and healing. As we age the joys of life seem to get further apart but are sweeter than ever. I want you all to know that when I see you and you share your joys and successes or your sadness, and disappointments I know that I have indeed been blessed with the opportunity of Yarn on Youree. I pray your life will be filled with thankfulness, and the gift of healing, more love than you can imagine, and the opportunity to give to others in their time of need. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
Good Morning!
I cannot believe its the week before Thanksgiving. The year is passing so quickly, and so many changes have taken place. We are so thankful for all the old and new friends we have seen. We have lots of yarn in the shop, Rowan,Blue Moon Fibers, Debbie Bliss, Zen Garden, Lana Di Crossa, Mirasol, Darn Good Yarn, Universal, Plymouth, Shibui, Blue Heron, Feza, Madelinestosh, and more. Our needle selection is awesome too, Chiao Goo, Dreamz, Marblez, Carbonz, Hiya, Cubics, and we are going to order Caspians from Knit Picks! We have some really pretty gift sets in these needle selections. Gift Certificates are available too for those of us that love to give the gift of choice! It has been the best two weeks being at my "job" ;). I love seeing people who love to knit, and crochet, and share their inspirations with us. We are starting beginning knitting classes this next week. Linda will be teaching two classes. And we have some exciting news on the crochet front, Our very own Krissy White is going to be teaching a beginning crochet class. In this class she will teach the chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet as well as slip stitch. You will be working on a simple washcloth pattern. We are very happy to have her teach at our shop. She has been crocheting for twenty years, and is now enrolled in a Master Knitting program. If you would like to add crocheting to your repertoire call the shop for more info on the class. I am going to be teaching a beginning Entrelac class, soon. We have had lots of interest in this technique due to the fact we have two beautiful samples in the shop. Ill keep you posted on the dates and times. Thank you to all of our friends who have loaned us their incredible knitted pieces to show. We have so many generous and talented people around us, so grateful for their friendship. Linda and I want to tell you how thankful we are for all of you this season, and everyday. Sometimes I sit and wonder "why me, Lord?"I have been given so much grace and favor by the Lord. This opportunity to serve you and our community is a gift, and I am full of joy at this time in my life. Blessings to you and your families. Oh shoot, almost forgot. Our Saturday hours are changing again, we will be open 10-4. Come see us soon! ![]() We are officially one week old! Yarn on Youree that is;).. What a wonderful week it was too. So many friends and new faces to wish us well, and tell us how excited they are that we are open. We are getting more yarn in everyday, and have already had to reorder some things! Thank you! The holiday season is here, and Im certainly thinking about gifts already, and what to give. Its my plan every year to give more handmade items, but somehow the days slip by and I don't get around to it. I hope you will get the chance to stop in and look at some of the beautiful yarns, and needles we have and they will inspire you to either make something , or give the gift of learning this wonderful craft to someone you know. We have our class schedule coming out next week, check back here and on Facebook for the classes we will have. The turkey talk has started,(black friday), and we have some news about that! We will be having a sale on everything in the shop that day, maybe not all at one time, but at one point or the other your favorite yarn, basket, bag or needles will be on sale! Check back for the details on this fun day! We are still planning our GRAND OPENING on December 6, 2014. We have some new yarn that will be in, and some new notions to peruse. And the door prizes are going to be fun too! Our first class was yesterday and it was so informative. Heidi Sunday who represents Plymouth Yarns, came and taught us about the iPad application, Knit Companion. This is a wonderful tool for us knitters to get and use. we will be offering a knit along that we will actually use this app. The project will be geared toward focusing on the app itself. Thank you to Kathyrn Wilson for this great idea! Also, our Saturday hours will be changing this coming week, Saturday we will be open 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. And we are considering being open every other Sunday from 1:00 pm till 4:00 pm for those folks that work on Saturday. Let us know what your thoughts on that are on that subject. Its a good day to sit by the fire, and knit, or just get some projects for the holidays together. I hope your day is warm, and filled with happiness. Hope to see you next week. Just keep knitting! Thank you so much for making our first open day so wonderful! We enjoyed hearing all the oohs, and ahhs! The weeks of preparation have been worth it! Seeing all of you enjoying our little shop with us was very satisfying. Conversation and laughter was the theme of the day. We have some beautiful yarns, and still have more coming. We have made many new friends, and reunited with many old friends. Linda knows everyone in Shreveport I'm convinced, many hugs and well wishes we're given. I've really enjoyed meeting all of the wonderful people she has worked with over thirty two years. I am in awe of these men and women who have given so many years teaching our children. This week has been a revelation to me in terms of having a real "job" to go to. Not that I haven't worked but, leaving my home everyday to go to another job is really different. Getting up and being presentable every day of the week is interesting too. The coolest thing though is this, I spent many hours and days at Nancy's knit shop, and always felt somewhat guilty for being there so much and not being at my home cooking, cleaning, decorating, doing yard work..all the usual things we stay at home moms do. Well, this is the cool part...Now my job is being at the knit shop!!! I don't have to feel guilty anymore!!!! Yay! My job is to hang out with awesome people, and be surrounded by gorgeous yarns, and inspiration for lots of new projects!
We have a wonderful day planned for this Saturday. Heidi Sunday, the representative for Plymouth Yarns is coming to teach us how to use a wonderful iPad application,A Knit Companion. This app is so useful and full of great tools to help us be better knitters. I love technology and all the things it allows us to navigate, and see. If you have an iPad, and want to learn more about this great application please come on Saturday at 9:00-12:00. If possible come by the shop today or call and get your name on the list for this class. There is a 20$ fee, and you must have the app downloaded on your iPad. And its free right now!. Heidi is also bring in the newest yarns to show us all, and has some prizes for us too!., Hope to see you today and everyday if you choose, and thank you again for your support, and kindness! Just keep knitting! Good Morning! Today we have five days until Yarn on Youree will be open! Cant believe this dream is real. So many wonderful things have come together for Linda and I. We have met new friends, and learned that we can push harder than we think we can. Age is just a number as they say, but my body says its the real deal! We are definitely opening November 8,2014. our hours will be 10:00 a.m. until we all leave on Saturday! Please come by and visit and see our little place we cant wait to spend time with you at.
We have lots of beautiful yarn and needles in the store. Still waiting on some to make its way here. There has been a surge of this craft coming alive again and especially demand for the USA hand dyers, and spinners. The dyers have to wait on the wool to come to them and then it has to be spun in all different weight options, additional fibers added and get it just right for the dye. The colors are incredible, and the textures equally so. We have an impressive list of vendors. I think some of the best! Madtosh,Dream in Color, Mountain Colors,Zen Garden,Blue Moon Fibers,Blue Heron, Feza, Jitterbug, Berroco, Cascade, Clasic Elite, Anzula, Juniper Moon, Universal Yarns, Mirasol, Arucania, Artyarns,Tahki-Stacey Charles, Plymouth, and I know I have forgotten more.We are very excited to be representing Linda Huff in our shop. She is a local lady who raises Angora rabbits. She often takes in abused bunnies and nurses them back to health , and then shares the bounty of their amazing Angora fur with knitters, weavers, and fiber artists. We have some of her beautiful yarn already at the shop and are looking forward to much more in the future. What a treasure she is. She feeds them, nurses them and then shears them, and spins the fur into yarn. She also has a pattern on Ravelry that will be available for purchase through Yarn on Youree. We are hoping to in the future to have her do some demonstrations for us. She reminds us of what women used to have to do in order to have cloth or wool for clothing. We also have the amazing Jackie Bell sharing her pottery skills with us. She is making yarn bowls for us, and the most beautiful ceramic buttons and shawl pins to accessorize our shawls, sweaters, hats and gloves. So unique and special. We can take special orders for her also, maybe a personalized yarn bowl, or mug for Christmas or birthdays! Classes are going to start up very soon, we will have a calendar posted on the website, and on Facebook. If you have any classes you are particularly interested in please let us know, and we will try our best to accommodate you. We offer private lessons on technique, and special projects. We also have a classroom that will be available for your own knitting groups to meet and sit and knit! Its a nice break sometimes to have just a few close friends to knit and enjoy only each others company. We are thinking of having a monthly knit, lunch club. You would pay a fee per month to come and knit, eat lunch, and dessert we provide and perhaps a nugget of something new. Tell us what you think of this idea. And if you have any requests let us know! We are thrilled beyond words to be able to have this shop. Our hope is that we can expand the love of knitting, crochet and make lives richer through friendship and caring. We certainly hope to see you on Saturday November 8,2014, but if not then soon after! Just Keep Knitting! Penny and Linda! Yarn on Youree |
