We have so many talented and gifted people among us. This week a young man came in with this fabulous sock. We sat and visited with him for awhile, and found out that he is a self taught knitter, and spinner. He is a student at Centenary College training to become a teacher. Every day it seems we meet such gifted and talented people. Linda and I want each and every one of them to feel welcome and wanted in our shop. Josh is this young mans name, and he has inspired us to push our knitting skills further, and maybe even spin! He has a drop spindle and we watched him yesterday spin some gorgeous fiber into fingering weight yarn. He is going to bring his wheel in soon and just spin. Drop into the shop if you haven't already we have the most fascinating and fun people coming in!
Our new Ashford looms are on the truck and headed our way!. We have 4 28inch knitters looms that we are going to be teaching weaving on. This is very exciting and a wonderful way to use the beautiful yarn that some of us ;) have stashed. AND how fun would it be to spin your own yarn and knit or weave with that! Thats a possibility that we are mulling around. Spinning might be next. We have so many fun things happening, and can't wait to get started! Sunday night we will have Downtown Abbey night from 6:30 or so until 8:00, bring a snack if you would like, but more importantly show up and knit with us! Its a great fun time for laughter and fellowship! Hope you weekend is filled with laughter, warmth, good food and lots of knitting!! Come see us on Youree dr!

I love this time of year. Everything is in a state of hope. Hope for the flowers to bloom again, the trees to green up, the temps to warm, the longer days to return, ideas to grow and come to life, chances for better understanding. All of these things are based on hope! Our culture tells us that once a year (New Years) we can make resolutions, come to new understandings, set goals, throw off the old and welcome the new. I think we can do this everyday..New day is everyday for us, we don't have to wait 365 days until we can start new again. Isn't God awesome to us? Just thinking of all the opportunities we have every day, every moment to change and improve who we are, and our surroundings. Inspiration is everywhere isn't it? Look at nature how she changes her colors, and textures. If you are bored with the status quo of fashion that we are fed, change it up! Just for yourself! Look at the colors in nature and how they are contrasted. Not in a planned garden but in a field,or a waterway,or an orchard something thats not maintained by us. If you love the colors of spring flowers, knit yourself something in those tones. Don't let what is dictated to you by what is fashionable or acceptable dampen your desire to make something for yourself thats outside the box. Knit up some fingerless mitts in some wild hand painted yarn, socks in a neon bright color! And wear them! How wonderful does it feel to wake up to a clear blue sky after days of grayness?Kind of like having dessert first! Go ahead and eat that cupcake, indulge yourself in color. Wear it! Its feels so good knitting with bright colors, silky fibers, and then wearing it! It draws attention! The good kind! Free yourself from the idea of being subtle, reserved, conservative ( at least in color). We need to see the color! When you walk into our shop I hope you see and enjoy the beautiful colors and textures of yarn. It draws you in doesn't it? Go for it! Get the color and experience the jolt of happiness that just one ball can give you! Slippers, mitts, a hat , a small scarf, a pompom on the ends of your scarf, knit or crochet a flower and wear it on your shoulder. Color is our visual form of hope! Use it every day.
I find myself looking for new ways to incorporate fiber into my life. Right now Im very drawn to weaving. We are going to start weaving classes in March. Simple projects to begin with, learning about the loom, how to calculate how much yarn you will need for your project, color choice and so much more that will allow you to use yarn in a different way. You will never look at your stash in the same way again! Weaving is an ancient art, the Bible speaks of it often. God wove us! Its so satisfying that a little of this an a little of that can be made into something unforgettable, timeless, and so visually appealing. I hope you can joint us for some classes and try this experience. Class size will be limited to 4 at a time. We will have four looms, maybe more depending on response to these initial classes. Class sign up is at the shop, and cost will be $50 for four classes. Valentines Day is coming up soon, we will have all pink and red yarn on sale 14% off in honor of this day of love! Souper Bowl party is February 1! From 6-9pm, we will be eating soup, snacks, and watching Downtown Abbey! Escape the football and come laugh and enjoy the english version of As the World Turns! Looking forward to the next moment, day, month and year! See you at the shop! ![]() We have classes scheduled!! If you love classes and are ready to learn new techniques, look at our calendar, and choose a class! There is a "duffer" class starting on January 17, that is fun! We just received a brand new shipment of wool from Brown Sheep! Beautiful colors and great texture. The felting technique is so much fun to learn! It's easy and fun to watch the wool change from yarn into a beautiful solid fabric! Its a chameleon for sure! What a wonderful gift it is for us to use. Once you learn how easy it is to knit or crochet a pattern and then add a little hot water and wala!! You have a whole piece of fabric that can be manipulated into just about anything you can think of! Shoes,purses,bowls,jackets,hats,jewelry,covers.. just to name a few...And it can be decorated on top of that!!! Agh!! Overload!!! Did you hear the warning tone going off in my head?? That's what happens when I think of all the things I can do with felted items! That's what creativity is all about, its what YOU can imagine. Don't be put off by thinking you can only do whats been done, do what is in your mind! Classes are also a way to connect with people you haven't met. Sharing in learning something is one of the most rewarding things in this world. Class sizes are limited, usually 6 is the limit for this felting class. Call the shop and get your name on the list, you can pay when you come in, but be sure and pick your colors for your project fairly soon, as we don't have more than five of each color!. See you soon, and have a wonderful weekend, Linda and I will be heading to Phoenix this friday for our first TNNA convention. This is one of the years largest Needle arts conventions for retailers. We are excited to see and learn what is new and exciting for the knit and crochet community. Looking forward to sharing with you all the fun and beautiful new trends this has to offer! Duane and Josh will be at our shop, helping with all your needs, please come in and be at home. Love to you all, and see you next week! |
